Quader dubs TIB BNP’s agent

Staff Reporter:

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday dubbed Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) the agent of the major opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

“Their [TIB’s] report is one-sided and anti-government,” he said at a press conference at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka.

“TIB speaks the same language as the BNP. It is realised from history that the organisation [TIB] has always been against the Awami League. They speak in favour of the BNP. We have not found any impartiality in their research,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the statements just a day after the anti-graft watchdog in its report said the 12th parliamentary election was “not free and not inclusive.”

When asked about the post-election violence, the Awami League leader said conflict will remain in politics and it is within every political party, including the ruling party. The Awami League is dealing with the issues under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, he said.

While responding to a question about the opposition party in parliament, Quader said it will be clear once the session begins.
