Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md Abdur Rahman yesterday said export volume in the fisheries sector will increase through collecting marine fishes.
“There is huge potentiality of marine fishes . . . we have plan to collect more marine fishes to export to different countries,” he made the comments while talking to journalists at his ministry here, an official release said yesterday.
After taking the oath as a minister on January 11, Abdur Rahman assumed office yesterday and said the fisheries and livestock sector has made a significant contribution to the life and livelihood alongside meeting demand of proteins of 18 crore people.
In reply to a question of a journalist, the minister said, “We have a plan to ensure availability of proteins aiming to meet domestic demands.”
He said the government has attached highest priority to keep prices of eggs, milk, meat and fishes under purchasing capacity of commoners during the holy month of Ramadan.
Earlier, the minister exchanged views with officials and employees of the Fisheries and Livestock Minis-try.
