HC asks not to publish gazette on Dhaka-4 result

Staff Reporter:

The High Court yesterday asked Election Commission (EC) not to publish gazette notification on the result of the 12th national parliamentary election in Dhaka-4 constituency.
It also issued a rule, asking the EC to dispose of within 10 days a plea for re-election in 18 polling cen-tres over allegations of serious irregularities.
Awami League-backed candidate and Supreme Court lawyer Adv Sanzida Khanam, who became second in the January 7 election, bagging 22,577 votes from the constituency, confirmed the matter to the newsmen.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman
and Justice Md Bashir Ullah passed the order after holding hearing on a plea filed by Adv Sanzida Khanam.
Independent candidate Awlad Hossain won from the constituency, securing 24, 775 votes.
