40 held in anti-drugs drives in city

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Sunday said they arrested 40 people for “selling and consuming banned drugs” from different areas of the city.
Sources at the DMP headquarters said Detective Branch sleuths and local police conducted drives across the city in the past 24 hours and arrested them.
Around 28,728 pieces of yaba, 16.150kg hemp, 211g heroin, and 211 bottles of Phensedyl, a codeine-based cough syrup that fetches a high price in the narcotics market of Bangladesh, were recovered from the possession of the accused, the sources told .
Twenty-eight cases were registered at local police stations against the accused under the Narcotics Con-trol Act.
