10 injured in Madaripur post-polls violence

Madaripur: Ten people were injured in bomb attacks during a procession brought out by the supporters of independent candidate Tahmina Begum on the occasion of winning the election at Fasiatala in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur district on Monday.
Witnesses said the supporters of independent candidate Tahmina brought out a procession over their vic-tory in the election.
At one stage, the supporters of the AL-backed candidate led by Alinagar UP chairman Shaheed Pervez attacked on the procession, triggering a chase and counter-chase.
Later, several bombs were exploded, leaving ten people injured.
Of the injured, six were taken to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex from where two were shifted to Dha-ka Medical College and Hospital.
Among the injured Emarat Sarkar, 45, was critically injured.
Sarkar Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Kalkini Police Station, said police are trying to arrest the attack-ers.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
