‘All candidates equal to police’

Staff Reporter:

Deputy Inspector General (Operation) of Police Md Anwar Hossain yesterday said that all candidates of the upcoming 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections are equal to police and there is no partiality from them.
“Police are not playing a partial role in favour of any candidate. Directives have been given so that all candidates get equal opportunity during election campaign,” he said while speaking at a regular press briefing on law and order situation centering the polls at the police headquarters here.
A total of 1.89 lakh police members will perform their duties across the country during the election, Anwar said, adding that police will also perform duties with mobile teams, striking teams and the magis-trates.
Noting that drive against illegal arms is going on and actions are being taken immediately if any infor-mation of clash is found, the police official said cases are being filed and in some cases, police are ar-resting those involved in violence.
“During election time, it’s our main task to keep the situation suitable for election and some police per-sonnel were transferred and withdrawn as per the directives of the Election Commission (EC),” Anwar said.
