Judgment in police obstruction case Dec 28

A Dhaka court yesterday set December 28 for pronouncing judgment in a case filed against 19 BNP leaders and activists including former home minister Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury for obstructing police from conducting their duties.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury set the date as the both prosecution and defence con-cluded their arguments in the case yesterday.
The other accused in the case are- Major (retd) Md Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Major (retd) Md Hanif, MA Awal Khan, MA Qaium, Md Dulal, Md Russel, Moinul Islam, Tofayel Ahammed alias Liton, Md Babul Hossain alias Babu, Md Alamgir Hossain alias Raju, Md Jahangir Shikder, Ariful Islam, Md Billal Hoss-ain, Md Samsul Huq Miyaji, Md Biplob, Md Khurshid Alam Momtaj, Md Mosharraf Hossain and Md Mahbub.
According to the case documents, the accused on June 4, 2011 held an illegal rally in front of Mohakhali Wireless Gate Panir Tank area and obstructed police from conducting their duties. They also attacked policemen, vandalized and torched vehicles.
Police on April 29, 2014, filed charge-sheet in the case. The court on April 25, 2022, framed charges, initiating the trial officially. It examined seven out of 12 witnesses on different hearing dates.
