Ind candidates strongly in field: Anisur

A Correspondent:

Chandpur: Election Commissioner Md Anisur Rahman yesterday said the independent candidates are contesting in the national polls with their strength and ability.
“Those who are independent candidates have entered the election with their strength and ability,” he told journalists in reply to the question – whether the ruling party is exerting influence on the independent candidates or not.
The election commissioner confronted the journalists after exchanging views with the candidates, offi-cials and individuals at Chandpur Deputy Commissioner’s Office here.
He said agents shall remain in polling centers till the counting after voting and sign the results.
This year, the ballot paper will not reach the centers on the day before the election, he said, adding that papers will reach the polling centres in the morning on polling day.
“In this case, we will take the help of law enforcers engaged in electoral works. If necessary, I will ask for the help of the army,” Anisur added.
Ballot papers can be given on the previous day of polling to inaccessible areas including char-areas. Tight security will be maintained, he said.
District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Kamrul Hasan, Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam and District Election Officer Mohammad Tofail Hossain were present, among others, on the occa-sion.
