Writs filed against EC decision

Staff Reporter:

Three people who lost their candidacy to contest in the upcoming national polls over their dual citizen-ship, yesterday filed separate writ petitions with the High Court against the decision taken by the Elec-tion Commission (EC).
The three are- Awami League nominee from Faridpur-3 Shamim Haque, Awami League nominee from Barisal-4 Shammi Ahmed and independent candidate for Barisal-5 Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah.
The EC on December 15 took the decision, cancelling the candidacy of these three on grounds of having dual citizenship.
The separate HC division benches, designated for disposing of polls-related cases, are likely to hear the pleas.
