Bank deposits in rural areas have decreased by 22.56 percent, while urban deposits are up 6.37 percent, said Bangladesh Bank in its latest report made available to media on Tuesday.
The total number of bank depositors until September 2023 stood at nearly 15 crore, said the report. They deposited over Tk17 crore in their accounts during this period.
Among them, 1 lakh 13 thousand 586 bank accounts holders have deposits of TK 1.0 crore and above. Around Tk 7.26 lakh crore has been deposited in these accounts. That means such account holders ac-count for 42.35 percent of the total deposits in the country’s banking sector.
Till June 2023, the total number of depositors was over 14 crore 59 lakh with deposits amounting to Tk16.87 lakh crores in these account.
There were Tk1.0 lakh 13 thousand 554 bank accounts with deposits of taka more than one crore.
According to this, the accounts holding TK 1.0 crore and more increased by 32 in a span of three months and seven thousand 66 in a span of one year, the BB report said.
