Police working as servant of people, IGP says

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun yesterday said police are working to maintain law and order situation with their relentless efforts as they are servants of the people.
“The first and main work of Bangladesh police are to serve the people . . .we (police) are working to establish ourselves as the servant of the people,” he told an annual meeting of Bangladesh Retired Police Officers’ Welfare Association (BRPOWA) at the auditorium of Bangladesh Police at Rajarbag in the city.
Acting President of Retired Police Officers’ Welfare Association Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (retired) Md Waliar Rahman and other retired senior police officials, among others, were present at the meeting, an official release said.
Secretary General of the association Police Super (retired) Mia Lutfar Rahman Chowdhury placed the annual report at the meeting.
Al Mamun said police built the first armed resistance against Pakistani occupation forces during the Lib-eration War in 1971.
There are many retired police officers who contributed significantly to the overall development of Bang-ladesh Police, Al Mamun said adding, “We remember your contribution with gratitude”.
The IGP said the new generation of police officers will strive to achieve success in their respective fields by taking advice and guidance from you.
