BNP-Jamaat in bid to create anarchy: Quader

Staff Reporter:

Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yes-terday said BNP-Jamaat is hatching conspiracy to create anarchy across the country on the Human Rights Day to be observed on December 10.
“Having failed in movement for lack of public involvement, they now want to carry on their movement through sabotage,” he told a press conference at AL President’s Dhanmondi office yesterday afternoon.
Quader said BNP is planning afresh to create violence across the country on the Human Rights Day in-volving Jamaat, but their plan has been leaked out.
“BNP has pushed itself further behind by doing the wrong politics. We want Jatiya Party to be a strong opposition party. The Awami League will hold talks with Jatiya Party in the evening. After this, a deci-sion will be taken on allocation of seats and symbols,” he said.
Assuring that the next general elections will be free and fair; the AL general secretary said the incumbent government is cooperating with the Election Commission (EC) to this end.
“We are going for the polls for sake of protecting democracy and constitution. The elections will obvi-ously be free and fair,” he said.
About the jurisdiction of the EC, Quader said now the Commission will have a role in economic and administrative issues, while the there is no interference of the government here.
“Now the government will discharge its routine duty only. The government’s task is to cooperate with the EC in holding a beautiful and fair election. And we are doing so,” he added.
Stating that the AL is not holding any rally on December 10, the AL general secretary said since the EC has expressed its inability to allow holding any rally on the Human Rights Day, the AL will not arrange it.
AL presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, joint general secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Na-sim, organising secretaries BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam and Sujit Roy Nandi, office secretary Biplab Barua, liberation war secretary Mrinal Kanti Das and deputy office secretary Sayem Khan were, among others, present.
