The High Court (HC) yesterday scrapped a verdict of labor appellate tribunal against Grameen Kalyan, owned by Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, asking to provide dividend to 106 former em-ployees of the company.
A High Court division bench of Justice Zafar Ahmed and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman pronounced the judgment, declaring the verdict of labour appellate tribunal, illegal.
“The appellate tribunal had came out with the judgment which was out of its jurisdiction as there were no deal whatsoever, between the owner and its employees. The High Court yesterday scrapped that judgment,” said Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun, who moved a plea against the judgment.
The labour appellate tribunal on April 3 had pronounced that judgment, asking Grameen Kalyan to pay the five percent dividend to the sacked 106 employees and staff of the organization as per Labour Act.
Grameen Kalyan later filed the plea with the High Court against that judgment.
