Jamaat leader Taslim gets 2-yr jail in arson case

A Dhaka court yesterday convicted and sentenced Jamaat-e-Islami central leader Laskar Mohammad Taslim to two-year jail in an arson case filed with capital’s Kafrul Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Torikul Islam pronounced the judgment in absence of the convict and issued an arrest warrant against him. The court also fined him Taka 3,000, to suffer one-month jail in default.
According to the case documents, Taslim and his cohorts stopped a CNG auto- rickshaw beside Kafrul Staff Quarter area on March 21, 2013, and torched the vehicle. The auto-rickshaw driver later filed the case with Kafrul Police Station.
Police on February 27, 2014, filed charge-sheet against Taslim. A total of nine witnesses testified in the case on different hearing dates.
