New gas structure found at well No-10 of Sylhet Gas field

Staff Reporter:

New structure of gas was found at well No-10 of the Sylhet Gas field from which about 18 million cubic of gas per day (MMCFD) are likely to be produced.
State Minister for power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid announced the new finding while talking to reporters at his ministry.
“This was found at the high pressure zone at a depth of about 3,400 meters. It will take about 7 months to bring this gas to Dhaka,” he told reporters.
He noted that the breakthrough is part of the ongoing move to add 600 MMCFD by 2025 gas from different gas fields by drilling 46 wells.” In the last eight months, we have found 100 MMCFD gas from different wells at different fields.”
“We hope about 500 MMCFD gas will come within 2024-25 fiscal years,” he said, adding that state-owned Petrobangla already found more gas in Bhola, Beanibazar, Sylhet and Koilash Tila gas fields.
Some 70 MMCFD gas will be coming from Koilashtila field and its economic value is about Tk 3600 crore in current value of local gas. But the value will be higher at Tk 9900 crore if the im-ported LNG price is considered. This gas will be taken to Khulna.
Nasrul said the new gas will play an important role in meeting local demands .
Currently, the country is now producing about 2577.2 MMCFD with importing 500 MMCFD against the demand for 4000 MMCFD.
