Prime Minister’s Adviser and Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office Mahdi Amin yesterday said Bangladesh-US relations are exceptionally deep and strong, having reached a new height of development partnership.
“This relationship is no longer confined to people-to-people contacts; rather, it has evolved into a broader development partnership,” he said.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a seminar titled ‘Powering Bangladesh’s Next Growth Chapter: A Pathway to Energy Security and Stability’, jointly organised by the US Embassy in Dhaka and the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) at Hotel InterContinental here.
Mahdi Amin said education, tourism and people-to-people contacts further strengthened bilateral relations, while expatriate Bangladeshis were serving as a bridge between the two countries.
He said more than 50 US companies invested directly in Bangladesh, adding that the government is working to diversify exports beyond ready-made garments into leather, processed food and agricultural products by ensuring policy continuity and a business-friendly environment.
Highlighting energy cooperation with US companies such as Chevron and Excelerate Energy, he said the government planned broader exploration of gas and coal resources, creating new investment opportunities.
He also highlighted welfare initiatives, including Family Cards and Farmers’ Cards, saying international organisations such as Mastercard and Visa could contribute to their implementation.
The adviser said discussions were underway to expand opportunities for Bangladeshi students to pursue higher education and scholarships at leading US universities.
Referring to the cordial interaction between the Bangladesh Prime Minister and the US President during the UN General Assembly session, he said the government would take initiatives to elevate bilateral relations further.
Chevron Bangladesh President and Managing Director Shu Xiong presented the keynote paper. Policy Exchange Bangladesh Chairman Dr M Masrur Reaz moderated the seminar.
A panel discussion was also held with participation from representatives of GE Vernova, Excelerate Energy, BSRM Group and BUET.
Later, Mahdi Amin visited stalls at the 30th US Trade Show 2026.
