Staff Reporter:
Chief Prosecutor (CP) of International Crimes Tribunal Md Aminul Islam will send a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs to execute the court verdict for confiscation of assets belonging to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was sentenced to death in a case related to crimes against humanity committed during the July 2024 mass uprising.
Md Aminul Islam told that he will send a letter to the home ministry today to implement the order for the confiscation of assets belonging to Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
“Also, we will send letters to the Ministry of Home Affairs in due course to ensure the execution of other tribunal verdicts that direct the confiscation of assets of others,” he said.
In the letter addressed to the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the chief prosecutor stated that on November 17, 2025, International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced the fugitive accused, Sheikh Hasina, to death for crimes against humanity.
The tribunal also ordered the confiscation of all her assets, directing that those be distributed as compensation to the families of those martyred during the July 2024 uprising and to other victims.
The tribunal further asked the home ministry to take the necessary steps to enforce this confiscation.
The letter warned that if all movable and immovable assets of the fugitive convict are not immediately brought under government control, she could potentially enjoy, sell, or otherwise transfer these assets, thereby rendering the tribunal’s confiscation order ineffective.
Consequently, the ministry is urgently requested to compile a comprehensive list of all the fugitive convict’s movable and immovable assets, bring those under state control, and take the necessary measures to distribute the assets in accordance with the tribunal’s directive as compensation to the families of the martyrs and the victims of the July 2024 uprising.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 has sentenced ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death for crimes against humanity committed during the Mass Uprising in 2024. In the same verdict, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who testified as a state witness, was sentenced to five years in prison.
This historic judgment, delivered on November 17, 2025, by a three-member panel led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, also ordered the confiscation of the assets of Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, with the proceeds directed toward providing appropriate compensation to the families of the martyrs and those who were injured.
In a case concerning crimes against humanity committed during the 2024 mass uprising, the International Crimes Tribunal on September 15 sentenced seven people, including Obaidul Quader, General Secretary of now-activities-banned Awami League, to death.
The other convicts sentenced to death are: AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Joint General Secretary of Awami League; Mohammad Ali Arafat, former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting; Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Chairman of the banned Jubo League; Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, General Secretary of the Jubo League; and President of banned Chhatra League Saddam Hossain and its General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan.
All the convicts remain at large. In this verdict, delivered by a three-member panel of the International Crimes Tribunal-2 led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, the tribunal ordered the confiscation of 50 percent (half) of all movable and immovable assets of Obaidul Quader, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Mohammad Ali Arafat, Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, and Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil.
It has been ordered that the proceeds from the sale of confiscated assets be used to provide appropriate compensation to those killed or injured during the July Uprising or to their families through the July Foundation or another statutory body.
Confiscation of half of assets of four convicts, including Hanif
The International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Joint General Secretary of the Awami League (an organization whose activities are currently banned), to death for crimes against humanity, in connection with the killing of people in Kushtia during the mass uprising.
Three other accused in the case are: Sadar Uddin Khan (President of Kushtia District Awami League and former Chairman of the District Council), Asgar Ali (General Secretary of Kushtia District Awami League), and Ataur Rahman (General Secretary of Kushtia Municipal Awami League) were sentenced to life-term imprisonment.
In the verdict delivered on October 29 by the three-member International Crimes Tribunal-2, presided over by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, it was ordered that half of the immovable property belonging to all the convicts be confiscated.
Also, it was directed that the proceeds from the sale of these confiscated assets be distributed via the July Foundation or another statutory organization as compensation to those killed or injured during the July uprising.
