Khulna: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman MP on Saturday declared that their ongoing movement will continue until the mandate of the February 12 referendum is fully implemented.
Addressing a rally organized by the 11-party alliance at Shibbari Intersection in Khulna, he warned that continuous programs would be announced to press home their seven-point demand, adding that people are ready to march towards Dhaka if called upon.
The opposition leader emphasized that their demands represent all citizens, including trial for the July genocide and killings over a period of 15-and-a-half years, curbing money laundering, stopping extortion, and securing fertilizer for farmers.
Criticizing the government, Dr. Shafiqur questioned why the referendum verdict is being sidelined despite a parliamentary majority, while raising concerns over rising utility bills and corruption.
Khulna City Jamaat Ameer Muhammad Mahfuzur Rahman presided over the event, conducted by Khulna-2 MP Adv. Sheikh Jahangir Hossain Helal.
The long march, involving over 1,000 vehicles, began from Dhaka towards Khulna and Kushtia earlier in the day.
