11 killed in two road mishaps

Chattogram: At least seven people, including three children, were killed and three others injured as a bus crushed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and an ambulance near Charia Istema Maidan in Hathazari upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Biplab Das, 27, Chinubala Das, 55, Rita Rani Das, 40, Srabanti, 18, Barsha, 10, Sudipto, 03 and Diganto, 03, all hailed from Dulal Master’s Bari in Mohammadpur village under Chandanish upazila of the district.
Confirming the matter, Kofil Uddin, officer of Fire Control Office, told that on information, a team of Hathazari Fire Station rushed to the spot and recovered bodies of seven passengers of the CNG auto-rickshaw and ambulance, who died on the spot.
“The bodies were sent to the morgue while the injured persons are undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital”, he added.
Police detained the vehicles. A case was filed with Hathazari thana in this connection.
On the other hand, a report from Mymensingh said, At least four persons were killed and 20 others in-jured in a triangular collision among three vehicles near Shikarikanda area here early Tuesday.
Officer-in-Charge of Mymensingh Model Police Station Shah Kamal Akanda said the accident occurred around 12.30 am on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway when a bus hit a CNG-run three wheeler and a pickup van from behind while trying to overtake.
“The pickup van overturned beside the road and the bus rammed into a roadside divider after hitting it. Two persons died on the spot while two others died on their way to the hospital,” he added.
Police and fire service members rescued the injured and sent them to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH). However, the police could not identify the victims immediately.
The bodies have been kept at the MMCH morgue for autopsy, the official said.
