Staff reporter:
The Ministry of Commerce has issued a licence to the Bangladesh Poultry Farmers’ Association to protect the interests of poultry farmers, ensure fair prices for their products and improve farm management.
The licence was issued on October 12 under Section 28 of the Companies Act, 1994, in the name of the association.
The Ministry’s Trade Organisation-1 branch issued the licence in favour of the association’s convener, Muhammad Shafiqul Islam.
The association aims to organise poultry farmers through a registration process and inform them about the development of the livestock sector and available government facilities.
It also seeks to contribute to increasing government revenue through the development of the sector.
The organisation plans to assist farmers in procuring quality chicks and feed, arrange training on farm management and strengthen coordination between farmers and the Department of Livestock Services (DLS).
It also plans to establish veterinary consultation services and pathology laboratories in every district with its own funds and financial contributions from members.
The association intends to develop a database of poultry farmers and coordinate with the DLS to facilitate the distribution of government grants.
To prevent financial losses resulting from inadequate planning, the organisation will provide necessary advice to farmers. It also plans to encourage educated unemployed youths to establish poultry farms on non-agricultural land, creating opportunities for self-employment.
Facilitating easy-term loans through coordination with government financial institutions will be another priority to address farmers’ financial constraints.
Association Convener Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said organising farmers, ensuring fair prices for their products and keeping production costs at a manageable level were among the organisation’s key objectives.
He also emphasised arranging loans on easy terms to ensure financial support for poultry farmers.
