A Dhaka court on Thursday placed three accused on remand for two days each in a case filed under the Explosives Act over a crude bomb explosion in front of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the capital’s Tejgaon area.
The accused are Md Akash Ahmed Samir alias Abdullah, 25, Md Shakhawat Hossain, 48, and Md Nur Nabi, 30.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Arif Reza of the prosecution division.
Earlier, Tejgaon Police Station SI Md Abdur Rahim, also the investigating officer in the case, produced the accused before the court and sought seven days of remand for each.
The remand petition said preliminary evidence suggested that the accused were involved in the incident. Their interrogation was necessary to uncover the motive behind the incident, identify and arrest other suspects, and collect relevant information.
During the hearing, the defence sought bail for the accused and opposed the remand petition, while the prosecution argued in favour of remand. After hearing both sides, the court granted two days’ remand to each accused.
Police arrested the accused in the capital on 10 October. A Dhaka court sent them to jail the following day, fixing Thursday for the remand hearing.
According to the case statement, a crude bomb exploded around 1:10am on 10 October on the road adjacent to the PMO, at the junction of the link road leading from Jahangir Gate towards Agargaon, under Tejgaon Police Station.
SI Md Mahidul Islam of Tejgaon Police Station filed the case on the same day.
