Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain yesterday told a parliamentary delegation from the United Kingdom (UK) that the Bangladesh government has allocated the highest-ever budget for the country’s health sector this fiscal year.
“This year, the highest budget allocation in the country’s history has been allocated for the health sector. The Health Services Division is working sincerely to ensure quality and accessible healthcare services for the people,” he said.
The UK parliamentary delegation comprised of UK Members of Parliament Monica Harding, Alan Gemmell and Rt David Mundell, met the health minister at his ministry office at the Bangladesh Secretariat here, said a press release.
During the meeting, the minister and members of the delegation exchanged views on various issues concerning the health sectors of the two countries.
They discussed the progress of Bangladesh’s health sector, ongoing activities and future plans.
Sakhawat Husain briefed the delegation on the current situation of measles and dengue in the country and various measures taken by the government to tackle the diseases.
He also highlighted various development activities in the health sector and the government’s initiatives to ensure healthcare services for the people.
