Govt working to improve law and order: Tuku

A Correspondent:

Tangail: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku yesterday said the government is working to further improve the law and order situation and eliminate drugs from society.
“At the same time, various awareness programs, including sports activities, are being organized to ensure that school students engage in sports and cultural activities alongside their studies and do not become involved in drugs in any way,” he said.
The state minister said this while replying queries of journalists after the inauguration of the first Com-munity Police Kabaddi Championship-2026, organized by the district police, at the Tangail Police Lines ground yesterday.
Tuku said a committee has already been formed under community policing. “We want to collectively improve the law and order situation further,” he added.
He said drugs are not produced in Bangladesh. Attempts are being made to destroy the country’s youth by deliberately bringing these drugs into the country from other countries, he said.
Addressing political leaders and activists, the state minister said, “There will be no lobbying regarding drugs. Everyone must raise awareness among people from their respective positions and take necessary measures. The police force will also take the highest possible action against its members so that no one can become involved in any drug-related activities.”
“We are trying to turn this into a social movement. Through a united effort, we will be able to build this movement,” he said.
Tangail Police Superintendent Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarker presided over the programme.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Selim Mia, Police Superintendent (Administration and Finance) Md Robiul Islam and Additional Police Superintendent Md Adibul Islam, Additional Police Superinten-dent of DSB Kazi Shahnewaz and Additional Police Superintendent, Sadar Circle, H. M. Mahbub Re-zaon Siddiqui, among others, were present at the event.
After the kabaddi competition, meritorious students of Police Lines Adarsha High School who obtained GPA-5 in the 2026 SSC examinations were accorded a reception.
State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku handed over crests to the students.
