Satkhira: A college student was stabbed to death over a trifling matter in front of the Livestock Office intersection in Satkhira district town on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Zakaria Khan, 19, son of Abdul Gafur Khan of the Katia area in the dis-trict town.
He had also appeared for this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination from Satkhira Government College.
Shahidur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station, said Zakaria, a cousin of former general secretary of the Satkhira municipal unit of BNP Masum Billah, was sitting at a tea stall with some peo-ple around 11:30pm.
At one stage, a group of miscreants engaged into a heated argument with the tea-stall owner, triggering a scuffle.
Later, the miscreants stabbed Zakaria with a knife when he tried to protect the tea-stall owner, leaving him injured.
He was taken to Satkhira Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries
around 12:30am.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify those involved in the incident, said the OC.
