Chandpur: District police have detained 370 people during a special drive launched across eight upazilas of Chandpur district targeting juvenile delinquency and teen gangs.
The operation was started on Sunday evening across key crime-prone areas under the direction and guidance of the Chittagong Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, involving personnel from all police stations and the Detective Branch (DB).
Md. Mizanur Rahman, Chandpur Superintendent of Police (SP) and Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Nadia Noor said investigators discovered ties to drug abuse and online gambling among several detainees.
Police said legal action, including filing formal charges and remanding suspects to jail, will be taken if their involvement is proved.
ASP Nadia Noor clarified that not all detainees were involved in criminal acts.
SP Mizanur Rahman emphasized the vital role of family oversight in preventing youth crime, citing lack of parental supervision, crime-prone environments, and unchecked online exposure as key contributing factors.
He reaffirmed that district-wide police operations will continue to ensure public safety and social order.
