S’pore wants to provide modern security tech

Outgoing Singaporean Chargé d’Affaires has expressed his country’s interest in providing modern tech-nology and technical assistance to strengthen Bangladesh’s border and immigration security.
Outgoing Chargé d’Affaires of Singapore Mitchel Lee said this during a courtesy call on Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed at his Home Ministry office in the Bangladesh Secretariat yesterday, a PID handout said.
During the meeting, they discussed the issues of bilateral relations, capacity building of the Bangladesh Police, modernisation of security systems at airports and land ports, technology transfer, economic and trade cooperation, and other issues of mutual interest.
Lee highlighted Singapore’s willingness to support Bangladesh in adopting modern technology for bor-der and immigration security, as well as providing technical assistance in these areas.
He said bilateral relations and trade between Bangladesh and Singapore were continuing to expand.
Ahmed also expressed hope that the appointment of a full-fledged Singaporean high commissioner to Bangladesh would be completed soon to further strengthen bilateral trade and relations.
Ahmed emphasized on the longstanding diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.
He said Bangladesh government is working to establish modern, technology-based immigration and bor-der security systems in the frontier and airports.
The minister also expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would expand through joint efforts to combat extremism, police training and transfer of technologies.
Singapore’s incoming Chargé d’Affaires Philip Ong, Additional Secretary of the Political and Immigra-tion Wing of the Home Ministry Dr Ziauddin Ahmed, and Second Secretary of the Singapore mission Dhanya Lingesh were present.
