Pay scale gazette publication process begins, notification soon

Staff Reporter:

The process of publishing the gazette notification for the new pay scale has begun, with the government aiming to issue it as soon as possible.

The draft has already been sent to the Bangladesh Government Press (BG Press), a senior Finance Ministry official involved in work on the pay scale said on Thursday, requesting anonymity.

“We sent it to the BG Press yesterday,” the official said.

The draft will then return to the Finance Ministry and subsequently undergo vetting by the Law Ministry before being formally issued with a government order or SRO number, he said.

The official said the government did not want to delay publication of the gazette.

“We do not want any delay in publishing the pay scale gazette. It will be published as soon as possible,” he said.

He added that the time being taken was only for completing the required formalities.

Meanwhile, the government is making preparations to arrange the funds required to implement the new pay scale.

Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani said the required funds had already been taken into account in the Medium-Term Budget Framework (MTBF).

Therefore, he said, the expenditure would not be a sudden burden on the government.

He said the government does not prepare a budget for only one year; rather, it makes advance estimates of possible revenues and expenditures for the following years.

“The potential expenditure for the new pay scale has also been incorporated into that planning, he added.
