Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education Mahdi Amin yesterday said the government will provide maximum support and opportunities to help students develop their talents, creativity and skills according to their individual interests.
“Prime Minister Tarique Rahman wants an education system that goes beyond textbook-based learning and helps students become honest, competent, skilled and compassionate citizens,” he said.
He made the remarks as the special guest at a reception for meritorious students secured GPA-5 in the 2025 SSC and HSC examinations at the auditorium of the International Mother Language Insti-tute in Segunbagicha yesterday.
Organized by the Special Events Department of Bangladesh Scouts, the programme honoured 580 talented Scouts and Rover Scouts with medals, certificates of appreciation and Tk 2,000 in cash each.
Congratulating the students, Mahdi said obtaining certificates should not be considered the sole measure of success in life, adding that formal education needs to be complemented by social ser-vice and extracurricular activities, which can be developed effectively through scouting.
“Everyone does not have to become a doctor or an engineer. If a student is interested in social sci-ences, literature, arts, sports, debate or scientific pursuits, the government will provide opportuni-ties and support for the full development of their potential in that field,” he said.
Recalling his own student life, the adviser said that nearly two decades ago, while he was a stu-dent, he had received an award for academic excellence in a public examination from the chief guest of the day, Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon.
Describing the honored Scouts as the future leaders of Bangladesh, Mahdi said their achievement was not an end but only the first step toward achieving greater goals.
He urged them to remain steadfast in the face of both success and failure and move forward with honesty, hard work, discipline and patriotism.
Bangladesh Scouts Chief National Commissioner and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A B M Abdus Sattar chaired the program while Cabinet Secretary and Bangladesh Scouts President Na-simul Ghani attended the event as special guests.
Deputy Chief National Commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho deliv-ered the welcome address. Senior government officials, including senior secretaries and secretaries of various ministries also spoke at the event.
