Court imposes travel ban on former Novo Theatre DG, wife

Staff Reporter:

A Dhaka court on Thursday imposed a travel ban on former Director General of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre Arshad Ullah and his wife Rebeka Akter over allegations of acquiring assets beyond their known sources of income and laundering money.

Dhaka Senior Special Judge Shahjahan Kabir passed the order following a petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Md Abdul Malek, said ACC Public Relations Officer Tanzir Ahmed.

According to the petition, the ACC is investigating allegations that Arshad Ullah and his wife had acquired assets beyond their known sources of income and laundered money to Canada.

The anti-graft watchdog body had received information that they might leave the country and sought restrictions on their overseas travel, it said.
