A Dhaka Court yesterday sentenced former Farmers Bank Audit Committee Chairman Babul Chisti and his son Rashedul Haque Chisti to 12 years imprisonment in a graft case.
The court also awarded five-year imprisonment to Babul Chisti’s wife Rozi Chisti and the bank’s former vice-president Masudur Rahman Khan in the case.
Judge Syed Arafat Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-4 handed down the verdict in presence of Bablu and Rashedul and ordered to send them to jail.
The court also fined Bablu, Rozi and their son Rashedul double the amount of embezzled money. Ma-sudur Rahman on the other hand was fined Taka 10 lakh, in default, to suffer one more year in jail.
The court also ordered to confiscate all of their properties in favor of the state.
Earlier on April 10 in 2018, ACC filed the case under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, with Gulshan Thana accusing an embezzlement of Taka 160 crore.
Among the four, Rozi and Masudur are currently out on bail.
