Swift justice in Ramisa case ensured: AG

Staff Reporter:

Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal yesterday said that justice in the case lodged over the brutal rape and murder of child Ramisa was ensured within the shortest possible time due to the highly active role of all organs of the state machinery.
He made the remarks while responding to journalists at his office after the pronouncement of the much-discussed death verdict in the Ramisa rape and murder case.
He said, “I think in Ramisa’s case, everyone in the state machinery played a very active role, which is why we have been able to secure justice for this brutal murder in the shortest possible time.”
The Attorney General further said that after the death reference (case records related to the judgment) of yesterday’s verdict from the trial court reaches the High Court, there is a provision for preparing it for hearing.
“We will try to ensure its hearing in the shortest possible time. In this case, a special directive from the chief justice may be required,” he added.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Children’s Violence Suppression Tribunal yesterday convicted Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akter and sentenced them to death in child Ramisa rape and murder case and fined them Taka five and two lakh respectively.
