A Dhaka court on Thursday granted permanent bail to journalist Anis Alamgir in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court also rejected a petition seeking exemption from personal appearance and ordered him to appear before the court in person.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the orders, Defence Lawyer Taslima Jahan Popy said.
She said the court granted him permanent bail in the ACC case and relieve the restriction on his foreign travel. However, the court turned down the plea seeking exemption from personal appearance.
Earlier, on 15 January, the ACC filed a case against Anis Alamgir over allegations of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income and money laundering. The court on 28 January showed Anis Alamgir arrested in the case.
According to the case documents, Anis allegedly acquired movable and immovable assets worth Tk4.09 crore. His total assets stood at Tk4.25 crore, with family and other expenses shown at Tk15.90 lakh.
Investigators found that Anis earned a total of Tk99.09 lakh from legitimate sources, including previous savings, income from talk shows and consultancy services, the sale of a plot, and savings certificates and bank interest.
On 5 March, Anis Alamgir secured bail from the High Court in a case filed by Aryan Ahmed, an organiser of the July Revolutionary Students’ Alliance, under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Uttara West Police Station on 14 December 2025.
