Fakhrul invites foreign investors

Terming Bangladesh as a promising destination for investment, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has invited the foreign entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh.
He also said the government has emphasized on expanding private sector participation in development activities.
Mirza Fakhrul said this when US Ambassador in Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen met him at his office at the Secretariat yesterday.
During the meeting, they discussed in details various aspects of bilateral cooperation and development priorities.
Highlighting the importance of international cooperation in Bangladesh’s ongoing development activi-ties, he said technical assistance, research and investment are needed to be increased.
Investment is particularly need for the sectors of water supply, agriculture, infrastructure development and rural communication, he said.
The minister mentioned that the USA has long been playing a significant role in strengthening the capac-ity of research institutions in the region and expressed hope that this cooperation would be further ex-panded in the future.
Ambassador Brent T. Christensen emphasized taking coordinated initiatives in sectors of mutual inter-ests, particularly called for enhancing bilateral cooperation in agriculture, energy support and renewable energy sectors including solar panels.
After the meeting, both sides expressed hope that the pace of development and progress of Bangladesh and the USA would be further accelerated in the future through mutual cooperation and partnership.
Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hassan and Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary Mohammad Showkat Rashid Chowdhury, among others, were present.
