Biman plans fleet expansion to 47 aircraft by FY 34

Staff Reporter:

The government yesterday reviewed a roadmap to expand the fleet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to 47 aircraft by the fiscal year 2034-35 as part of efforts to modernize the national carrier.
The review came at a meeting on Boeing aircraft procurement held at the conference room of the Minis-try of Civil Aviation and Tourism at Bangladesh Secretariat.
The meeting discussed in detail the possible roadmap for fleet expansion and reviewed the inclusion of Boeing aircraft to achieve the target. Initiatives undertaken during the previous government’s tenure were also examined.
Chairing the meeting, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam said an integrated action plan based on route-wise revenue and expenditure analysis should be prepared before adding each air-craft.
She said timely and realistic measures could transform Biman Bangladesh Airlines into a more profitable and passenger-friendly airline.
State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat said the necessary processes for induction of Boeing aircraft should continue.
He stressed ensuring timeliness in the supply process and called upon all concerned to work in a coordi-nated manner so that new aircraft could be incorporated into the fleet during the tenure of the present government in line with the existing plan.
The state minister also directed officials to take necessary preparations for resuming flight operations on the Dhaka-Narita route.
Secretary of the ministry Fahmida Akhtar, Managing Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and senior officials of the ministry and related agencies attended the meeting.
