RAB nabs two in auto-driver murder case

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members have arrested two people including the prime suspect from sepa-rate areas in connection with the murder of an auto-rickshaw driver in the capital’s Turag area.
The arrestees were Md Shahidul Islam, 34, and Kabir Sheikh, also known as Swapan Sheikh, 28.
Shahidul was arrested from the Stand Overbridge area in Dhamrai while Kabir was arrested in front of the Diabari Metro Rail building in Turag.
Additional SP (Media Officer) of RAB-1 Shah Alam said on Sunday that Saiful Islam went out with his battery run auto-rickshaw on February 15 and did not return home.
His family registered a general diary (GD) with Ashulia Police Station on February 17.
The following day, an unidentified body was recovered from a lake in Turag which was later identified by family members as Saiful.
Subsequently, Saiful’s wife Lovely Begum filed a murder case with Turag Police Station.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that Saiful was murdered in a planned attempt to snatch his auto-rickshaw, said the RAB official.
Shahidul hired the victim and took him to Kamarpara kitchen market area in Turag, where he was ren-dered unconscious with the help of accomplices, he said.
Later, they transported him to a lake in Sector 16 of Turag and dumped him in the water.
RAB said seven people were involved in the killing and among them Babul, Naim, Sobahan and Nargis are currently in jail in connection with other cases.
The arrestees have been handed over to Turag Police Station for further legal proceedings.
