Sale of return train tickets for Eid travel begins

Staff Reporter:

Advance train tickets for passengers returning to their workplaces after the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays went on sale on Friday, the first day of ticket sales for post-Eid journeys.

Tickets available on Friday are for trains departing on 23 March, according to Bangladesh Railway. To facilitate passengers, the railway authorities are selling 100 per cent of the tickets online.

Online ticket sales began at 8:00am, when tickets for all intercity trains operating in the western region became available. Tickets for intercity trains in the eastern region will go on sale from 2:00pm.

Under the railway’s schedule, tickets for 24 March journeys will be sold on 14 March, those for 25 March on 15 March, for 26 March on 16 March, for 27 March on 17 March, for 28 March on 18 March, and for 29 March on 19 March.

Tickets for journeys on 20, 21 and 22 March will be sold depending on the sighting of the moon marking the end of Ramadan.

At the request of passengers, 25 per cent of non-air-conditioned coach tickets will be available as standing tickets, which can be collected from the originating stations before departure.

Passengers will be allowed to purchase advance Eid journey tickets only once, with a maximum of four seats per transaction, and the tickets will not be refundable, the railway authorities said.
