Biman cancels flights on six Middle East routes until 8 March

Staff Reporter:

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East and rising security risks in regional airspace have severely disrupted the flight schedule of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. In response to the situation, the state-owned airline has announced the cancellation of all flights on six major Middle Eastern routes until 8 March.

Earlier, flights on these routes were suspended from 3 March to 5 March, but the suspension has now been extended due to the continuing uncertainty.

The decision was communicated to travel agencies by Biman on Friday afternoon, requesting them to inform passengers about the updated situation.

The cancelled routes include flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Dammam, Doha, and Kuwait City.

The airline said that passengers will be informed about the revised schedules once the situation improves and flights resume.

According to aviation sources, several countries in the Middle East—including Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan—temporarily closed their airspace from the afternoon of 28 February due to the escalating conflict.

This move has had a direct impact on operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, disrupting international flight schedules.

Statistics show that due to the ongoing war situation, a total of 245 flights operated by different airlines from Dhaka had been cancelled as of Friday.

Biman authorities said the uncertainty will continue until tensions in the airspace ease and normal operations resume. Passengers have been advised to stay in contact with the airline’s call center or relevant offices for updated information about their flights.
