Staff Reporter:

A seminar titled “The Importance of Contemporary Technical Education for National Development” was recently held at the auditorium of Bashundhara Technical Institute (BTI).

Around 70 students of the institute participated in the event.

The programme was presided over by BTI Principal Dr Kazi Md Shawkat-ul Islam. Major (Retd) Md Mohsinul Karim, Senior Executive Director of Bashundhara Group, attended as the chief guest, while AKM Nausherul Alam, Senior General Manager of Bashundhara Foundation, was present as the special guest.

BTI Student Adviser Shafi Ahmed Suchok delivered welcome address, while Head of the R/S Department Khadija Akter conducted the seminar. Russell Reza, Junior Instructor of Civil Technology, also spoke at the event.

Addressing the seminar, chief guest Major (Retd) Md Mohsinul Karim said Bashundhara Group aims not only for business success but also to advance the country’s industrial and technological sectors.

“We want our students and the younger generation to lead in technological innovation, especially in semiconductors and modern electronics. Skilled students can contribute to our projects and industrial facilities, helping the country’s semiconductor industry reach international standards,” he added.

Special guest AKM Nausherul Alam said Bashundhara Group has long provided students with opportunities such as merit scholarships, government sub-grants, and work placements in its industries and projects.

He cited China as an example, where technical education was prioritised in the 1980s to meet industrial and economic needs, significantly transforming the job market and accelerating economic growth.

Principal Dr Kazi Md Shawkat-ul Islam said such seminars encourage students’ interest in technical education and motivate them to contribute effectively to the country’s technology sector.

The seminar played an important role in promoting technical skills and innovative thinking among students, preparing them for future careers and active participation in the country’s industrial and technological development.
