The deceased was identified as Rupanta Chakma alias Leja Chakma, 47, collector of UPDF and son of Laxmi Chandra Chakma of Shimultoli village in Dighinala upazila of Khagrachari district.
Rafiqul Amin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said the miscreants opened fire on Leja Chakma while he was going to work around 8:30 am.
On information, a team of police left for the place to recover the body.
