Staff Reporter:
In an unusual episode in Bangladesh’s political history, President Mohammed Shahabuddin has become the first in the country to swear in three governments over just in three years, marking a period of rapid political transition.
The President administered the oath to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman as the new Prime Minister at a ceremony held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban yesterday afternoon.
He also swore in ministers and state ministers of the new cabinet formed under Tarique Rahman’s lead-ership.
On January 11, 2024, President Shahabuddin had administered the oath to the Awami League govern-ment led by Sheikh Hasina following the national election that year.
But the Awami League government fell on August 5, 2024 amid a mass uprising.
On August 8, 2024, an interim government was formed under the leadership of Nobel Laureate Profes-sor Muhammad Yunus.
President Shahabuddin also administered the oath to the members of the interim administration.
On April 23, 2024, Mohammed Shahabuddin was sworn in as the 22nd President of Bangladesh.
