Staff Reporter:
Former Chief of Army Staff General (Retd) Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan is set to testify today in a case against former Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) Ziaul Ahsan, over his alleged involvement in enforced disappearances and more than a hundred killings.
Confirming the matter to newsmen, prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said the former army chief ap-peared before the tribunal to testify as a prosecution witness in the case.
On January 14, 2026, ICT-1 framed three specific charges against Ziaul Ahsan.
The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, passed the order, scrapping a discharge petition filed by the accused. The tribunal also set yesterday for the prosecu-tion to place its opening statement.
Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam pleaded for framing the charges, while senior advocate Mansurul Haque Chowdhury moved the discharge petition.
Earlier, on December 17, 2025, the prosecution submitted the formal charge, bringing three specif-ic counts against Ziaul Ahsan.
Ziaul Ahsan is currently in custody and facing trial in several cases involving allegations of abduc-tion, torture, enforced disappearance, killings, and other crimes against humanity.
