A Dhaka court on Thursday sent accused Md Billal, 19, to jail in connection with the murder of Swechchhasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman Musabbir.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Habibullah Piash passed the order after police produced the accused before the court following the completion of his three-day remand.
Earlier in the day, the accused expressed his consent to give a voluntary confessional statement, and the investigating officer submitted a petition to record the statement.
However, the accused later declined to do so, after which the court directed that he be sent to jail.
On 19 January, the court placed the accused on a three-day remand.
On 11 January, Billal was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder and later placed on a seven-day remand the following day.
According to the case documents, Musabbir, 45, former general secretary of the Swechchhasebak Dal’s Dhaka North unit, was shot dead by miscreants on 7 January in an alley behind Star Kabab at Tejturi Bazar under Tejgaon Police Station.
Following the incident, Musabbir’s wife, Suraiya Begum, filed a murder case with the police station against four to five unidentified individuals.
