Case filed over child abuse at Dhaka school

A case was filed on Thursday over an incident of child abuse at a school in Dhaka’s Naya Paltan area.

The victim’s mother lodged the case with Paltan police station under Section 70 of the Children Act, accusing Sharmin Jahan, the founding principal of Sharmin Academy, and Pabitra Kumar, the school’s manager.

According to police, the two accused are spouses and currently on the run.

The incident occurred on 18 January, and CCTV footage of the abuse went viral on 21 January, triggering widespread public outrage.

Paltan police station Officer-in-Charge Mostafa Kamal said they were trying to arrest the couple.
