Education Adviser Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar yesterday stressed the need for reconsid-ering the importance of curriculum reform and co-education program aiming to make the educa-tion practical and life-oriented.
“The talent does not mean only the practice of mathematics or solving the difficult problems of science but the real purpose of the education is to unearth the hidden qualities of the human be-ings,” he said.
The education adviser made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest a prize distribution and concluding ceremony of the ‘National Education Week-2026’ at Osmani Memorial Auditori-um here this morning.
Now the education authorities and the guardians are putting burden on the children with books that is ultimately creating an impediment in developing their other qualities, he said, adding that so, it is the high time to give more importance to the co-education by reducing excessive depend-ence on books and exams.
Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division, spoke the function as the special guest while Rehana Parveen, secretary of the Secondary and Higher Educa-tion Division of the Ministry of Education chaired it.
Professor Dr Abrar said the education institutions should be decorated with attractive environment so that the students feel attraction to move toward school.
Expressing his commitment to diminish existing discrimination between the urban and rural schools, the education adviser said the equity of opportunity is a right of every student.
“Only one or two schools are better in a particular area –We have to come out from this concep-tion”, he told the function, saying that each and every school should be developed up to the mark as the talented students in village and other remote areas can expose their talents.
Highlighting the statistics of the winners of different competition of the National Education Week, the adviser said among the winners, 57 percent are female and 43 percent male.
Lauding absolute dominance by the female in language, composition and cultural contest, the ed-ucation adviser said the female are strengthening their position now through their own compe-tence. “We have to eliminate gender discrimination from our mentality and everyone should be evaluated based on the competence”, he added.
Recalling his own student life, Professor Dr CR Abrar said he was inspired to recitation with the motivation of his classmates.
At the end of his speech, the adviser motivated the students with patriotism and self-respect through reciting some verses of the ‘Bidrohi’ poem written by national poet Nazrul Islam.
Later, the adviser handed over prizes and certificate among best students, excellent educational Institutions and winner students who attended the function throughout the country.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Education, teachers’ representatives and large number of stu-dents also were present at the function.
