Staff Reporter:

Swiss President Guy Parmelin has conveyed his best wishes for peace and prosperity for Bangladesh and its people ahead of the country’s general elections scheduled for February 12.
The message was delivered when newly appointed Bangladesh Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation, Nahida Sobhan, presented her Letters of Credence to President Parmelin at the Federal Palace in Bern on Tuesday following a formal ceremony, according to a press release received in Dhaka yesterday.
After the presentation, President Parmelin and Ambassador Sobhan held a cordial meeting in the pres-ence of Terence Billeter, Head of Protocol of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, President Parmelin reaffirmed that Switzerland attaches great importance to its rela-tions with Bangladesh.
Recalling more than five decades of diplomatic ties between the two countries, he expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to deepen in the coming years.
The Swiss President also enquired about the forthcoming national elections in Bangladesh and conveyed his hopes for continued peace, stability and prosperity for the Bangladeshi people.
The Ambassador informed President Parmelin that Bangladesh is preparing for its general elections scheduled for February 12, 2026, noting that the polls would further strengthen the country’s democratic process.
She also assured him of the continuity of Bangladesh–Switzerland relations in the post-election period, irrespective of the electoral outcome.
