Chattogram: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin yesterday said the commission’s is committed to conduct a transparent and accountable election.
“It will be a transparent election, nothing will be secret,” he told journalists after a meeting with the of-ficials of the administration and law enforcement agencies at the Chattogram Circuit House.
The EC is dedicated to organize an election that will be open and visible to all, the CEC said rejecting the notion of anything hidden.
Nasir Uddin said, “Our goal is to create conducive environment for voters, ensuring that every Bangla-deshi has the opportunity to exercise their vote.
He said, provisions have been made for overseas ballots and electoral staffs to allow them to cast their vote.
The CEC said the commission has no intention to hinder journalists from doing their profession. Instead, we seek their cooperation and partnership.
“We all should play role in advancing democracy. I urge your cooperation and support in this endeavor,” he said.
The CEC said Shapla symbol is not included in the prescribed list, so they cannot allocate it to any polit-ical party. He expressed confidence in the NCP leaders who led the July uprising in 2024, saying “I hope they will not hinder democracy, and view the EC’s decision as unpatriotic.”
Government officials assured the CEC that the upcoming elections would be different from previous ones.
Nasir Uddin said, some people suggested us for shutting down the internet on the polls day. But I don’t support this as I want free flow of information.”
Divisional Commissioner Md. Ziauddin chaired the meeting while Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar was present, among others.
