BNP to give ‘green signal’ soon to single candidates for constituencies: Salahuddin

Staff Reporter:

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said the party is currently selecting candidates for the 13th national parliamentary elections.

“Very soon, single candidates in each constituency will be given a ‘green signal’ to begin their ground work,” he said.

He made the remarks on Friday while speaking to journalists at his Gulshan residence in Dhaka, discussing contemporary political issues.

Replying to a question, Salahuddin Ahmed said the BNP is a large democratic and liberal political party. “We have multiple eligible candidates in every constituency. In many seats, there are 10 to 12 aspirants. We are now systematically finalising candidates and will soon give a green signal to single candidates to start their constituency work. However, this will be official only after the election schedule is announced,” he added.

He emphasised that no issues should be raised unnecessarily that could create new crises in national life. He also said discussions are ongoing with various political parties regarding the formation of an election-focused alliance.

Highlighting the need for unity among political parties to protect democracy, Salahuddin Ahmed said that despite differences among themselves, anti-fascist parties will stand together on matters of democracy.

He further said the BNP has long demanded that the Awami League be held accountable, but the party is not in favour of banning any political party through executive orders; any action must follow judicial procedures.

Salahuddin Ahmed also said, “Even after committing genocide, there is no remorse within the Awami League. Rather, they are plotting against the country from Delhi.”

He added that the government should file cases against Awami League in ICT courts.

Responding to the recent remarks of the Prime Adviser on the Awami League, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “The Prime Adviser could have avoided saying that the people want the current government for five years.”
