The capital city witnessed 34mm rain till Monday morning, leaving most of the city streets waterlogged causing tremendous sufferings to commuters.
Heavy rain, accompanied by thunderbolt, was occurred in the city between 5:45 am and 7:00 am yester-day while water logging was observed in Shantinagar, Siddeshwari, Malibagh, Dhanmondi, Moham-madpur, Kalabagan, Karwan Bazar, Green Road, Manipuri Para, New Market, Asad Gate, Jigatola, and other areas.
In some places, the water reached knee level, while in others it was waist deep.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), 34 millimeters of rain fell in the city between midnight and 6:00am Monday.
According to the met office, a low-pressure is expected to form over the North Bay of Bengal while an-other low-pressure is expected to form over the North Bay by the same time.
However, another low-pressure is expected to form over the East Bay on Wednesday.
Noting that the formation of two systems within three days is not unusual, the met office said their ef-fects may increase rainfall and bring strong winds, particularly in coastal regions.
In recent days, the capital Dhaka and other parts of the country have been experiencing sweltering, hu-mid heat. On Saturday and Sunday, the capital’s sky was hazy. The BMD had earlier forecast that rain-fall would increase starting from Monday.
