‘Overlapping in rural dev planning must be avoided’

Staff Reporter:

Disaster management and relief adviser Faruk-E-Azam, Bir Protik, yesterday said that overlapping in planning for rural infrastructural development must be avoided.
“The government usually takes rural development projects for the improvement of the life standard of the general people, especially for the poor people,” he said while inaugurating as chief guest a two-month long workshop for the Project Implementation Officers (PIOs) at Mohakhali Disaster Manage-ment Directorate.
The adviser urged the authorities concerned to be more careful in formulating and implementing the ru-ral projects so that the marginalized poor people are not deprived.
Referring to the previous allegations of irregularities in purchasing relief goods for the directorate, Fa-ruk-E-Azam said that the directorate has been purchasing goods like blanket, corrugated iron (CI) sheet and dry food from the district levels that will help to reduce corruption in the directorate.
He also urged the PIOs to come out from their previous bad reputation and work sincerely rising above all sorts of temptation and gluttony.
The government is contemplating to construct warehouses at the upazila levels to store the relief goods, the adviser added.
Chaired by the Director General of the Disaster Management and Relief Directorate Rezwanur Rahman, disaster management and relief ministry secretary Mustafizur Rahman and other senior officials of the directorate were also present at the inaugural function.
