Staff Reporter:
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has withdrawn three officers from the Mohammadpur Police Station after they were found to ignore calls for maintaining high vigilance against Awami League’s surprise processions.
Assistant Commissioner AKM Mehedi Hasan, Inspector (investigation) Abdul Alim and Duty Officer Sub-Inspector Masudur Rahman have been attached to the DMP Headquarters and the reserve police force.
Based in intelligence reports, DMP issued alerts to all police stations to remain proactive against Awami League’s potential marches across the capital following Friday’s prayers. The activists of the banned political group were also expected to hurl crude bombs at policemen when intercepted.
DMP deployed additional commissioners to ensure the police stations remain on alert against Awami League’s marches, which took place in several parts of the capital on Friday.
To this end, at 3pm, Additional Commissioner SN Md Nazrul Islam visited the Mohammadpur Police in plainclothes. There he found five police vehicles, including two petrol cars, parked at the station, at a time they were supposed to conduct patrols.
Inside the station, Nazrul Islam found two of the withdrawn officers eating meals casually, and the duty officer in a relaxed state. He immediately ordered the officers to be withdrawn and attached to other sections.
